Base

Balance & Sweetness

Method

Base

  1. 1

    Measure

Measure 3 tablespoons each of non-alcoholic bitter aperitif, non-alcoholic red vermouth substitute, and non-alcoholic gin substitute into a mixing glass or small pitcher.

  2. 2

    Combine

Stir the three base components together gently to start marrying flavors.

Balance & Sweetness

  1. 3

Add 1/2 tablespoon simple syrup and 1/4 tablespoon fresh orange juice to the mixing glass. Stir thoroughly for about 10–15 seconds to dissolve and integrate the syrup and juice into the blend. Taste and adjust: if you prefer slightly sweeter, add up to another 1/2 tablespoon simple syrup; if too sweet, add a splash (1/4 tbs) more bitter aperitif or a drop more orange juice.

Finish & Aromatics

  1. 4

Fill a rocks glass with two large ice cubes. Strain the mixed Phony Negroni into the prepared glass over the ice.

  2. 5

    Bitters (optional)

If using Angostura or non-alc aromatic bitters, add 1–2 dashes on top to introduce extra depth and spice. Stir once gently (3–5 rotations) to chill and integrate.

  3. 6

    Garnish

Express the orange peel: hold the peel over the drink, skin side down, and give it a firm twist to release oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the glass as garnish.

  4. 7

Serve immediately and enjoy. The drink should be bitter-forward with rounded sweetness and bright orange aromatics, approximating a classic Negroni without alcohol.
