Base Ingredients

Method

Preparation of Base

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well mixed. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Preparation of Frosting

  1. 8

    Make the Frosting

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with milk, until smooth and spreadable.

  2. 9

    Add Vanilla

Mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
