Base Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Espresso

Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and let it cool. If desired, mix in the coffee liqueur after it has cooled.

  2. 2

    Whisk the Egg Yolks

In a medium bowl, separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Whisk the egg yolks and sugar until the mixture becomes pale and fluffy.

  3. 3

    Add Mascarpone

Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until well combined and smooth.

  4. 4

    Whip the Egg Whites

In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone mixture to create a light and airy filling.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Dip the Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso, ensuring they absorb some liquid but do not become too soggy.

  2. 6

    Layer the Ingredients

In a 9x13 inch dish, arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers, followed by half of the mascarpone mixture. Smooth it out evenly.

  3. 7

    Repeat the Layers

Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers on top of the mascarpone mixture, followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture. Smooth the top layer.

Chilling

  1. 8

    Refrigerate

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.

  2. 9

    Dust with Cocoa

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder using a fine sieve for a beautiful finish.
