Meatball Mixture

Method

Prepare Meatballs

  1. 1

    Combine Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground veal, ground pork, and ground beef. Add breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, eggs, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the meat mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Make Sunday Sauce

  1. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Herbs

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

Cook Meatballs

  1. 5

    Add Meatballs to Sauce

Carefully add the formed meatballs into the simmering sauce. Ensure they are submerged in the sauce. Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low.

  2. 6

    Slow Cook

Let the meatballs cook in the sauce for about 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring gently every 30 minutes to prevent sticking.

Serve

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the heat. Serve the meatballs on a plate, topped with a dollop of ricotta cheese and garnished with fresh basil.
