Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.

2

Measure and combine

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, add 2 oz brandy, 0.5 oz bitter orange liqueur, 0.25 oz maraschino liqueur, 0.25 oz peach liqueur, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup.

3

Add pastis

Add 0.25 tsp pastis to the mixing glass. Pastis is potent and can overpower the drink; using the small measured amount gives an anise lift without dominating the fruit and brandy.

4

Add ice and stir or shake

Add enough ice to the mixing glass (about 1 cup). Because this recipe contains citrus, shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds to both chill and slightly dilute. If you prefer a silkier, less aerated texture, stir with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds instead.

5

Prep glass and fine-strain

Remove ice or water from the chilled glass. Fine-strain the cocktail from the shaker into the chilled coupe/Nick & Nora using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch any small ice shards and citrus pulp.

6

Garnish and finish

Express a lemon twist over the drink (pinch the peel to release oils) and rub it around the rim, then drop it into the glass. Optionally, add a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately.
