Tarte Tatin Ingredients

Method

Tarte Tatin Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apples

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel, core, and cut the apples into quarters. Toss them with lemon juice and a pinch of salt in a bowl.

  2. 2

    Make the Caramel

In a 9-10 inch oven-safe skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sugar and stir until it dissolves and turns a golden brown color, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add the Apples

Carefully place the apple quarters in the skillet, arranging them tightly in a circular pattern. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, turning them gently until they start to soften and caramelize.

  4. 4

    Add Vanilla

Drizzle the vanilla extract over the apples in the skillet and remove from heat.

  5. 5

    Top with Puff Pastry

Roll out the puff pastry to fit over the apples in the skillet. Trim any excess pastry and tuck the edges down around the apples.

  6. 6

    Bake

Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate and serve warm.
