Gulab Jamun Balls

Sugar Syrup

For frying

Method

Preparing the Gulab Jamun Balls

  1. 1

    Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk powder, all-purpose flour, baking soda, cardamom powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix well until all dry ingredients are evenly blended.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the ghee and warm milk to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more warm milk, a tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.

  3. 3

    Shape the Balls

Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into smooth, round balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Ensure there are no cracks on the surface.

Preparing the Sugar Syrup

  1. 4

    Make the Syrup

In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and cardamom pods. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  2. 5

    Add Rose Water

Once the sugar has dissolved, remove from heat and add rose water. Stir well and set the syrup aside to cool slightly.

Frying the Gulab Jamun

  1. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the oil or ghee over medium heat until it reaches around 350°F (180°C). To check, drop a small piece of dough into the oil; it should sizzle and rise to the surface.

  2. 7

    Fry the Balls

Carefully add the shaped balls into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until they turn golden brown, gently rolling them in the oil for even cooking.

  3. 8

    Soak in Syrup

Once fried, remove the balls with a slotted spoon and transfer them directly into the warm sugar syrup. Allow them to soak for at least 1-2 hours, or until they become soft and absorb the syrup.
