Method
BEER
- 1
Mashing the Grains
In a large brew kettle, heat 5 liters of water to about 70°C (158°F). Add the Pilsner malt and flaked corn to the hot water. Stir well to combine and maintain the temperature for 60 minutes.
- 2
Lautering
After mashing, drain the liquid from the grains into your fermentation vessel. This liquid is called wort. Rinse the grains with an additional 2 liters of hot water to extract more sugars.
- 3
Boiling
Bring the wort to a boil. Once boiling, add the Hallertau hops and boil for 60 minutes. This will contribute to the bitterness and aroma of the beer.
- 4
Cooling the Wort
After boiling, cool the wort quickly using an immersion chiller or by placing the kettle in an ice bath until it reaches around 20°C (68°F).
- 5
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel. Sprinkle the yeast on top and seal with an airlock. Let it ferment in a cool, dark place (around 12-15°C or 54-59°F) for 2 weeks.
- 6
Bottling
After fermentation is complete, dissolve the priming sugar in a small amount of water and add it to the beer. Then, siphon the beer into sanitized bottles and cap them. Allow the bottles to carbonate for another 1-2 weeks at room temperature.
