Potatoes and Seasoning
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Potatoes
Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly. Peel them if desired, then cut them into thick slices, approximately 1/2 inch wide.
- 2
Soak the Fries
Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps remove excess starch and improves crispiness.
- 3
Drain and Dry
After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 5
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add the fries to the hot oil in small batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- 6
Drain and Season
Remove the fries from the oil and drain on paper towels. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.
- 7
Serve
Serve the thick cut fries immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
