Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
- 3
- 4
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. It will be thin.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Divide the cake batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 6
Cool the Cakes
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Whipped Cream Preparation
- 7
Prepare the Whipped Cream
In a mixing bowl, pour in the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until soft peaks form.
- 8
Top the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of whipped cream on top, then place the second layer on top and cover the entire cake with the remaining whipped cream.
