Steak and Marinade

Method

Marinating the Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a bowl, combine salsa, olive oil, lime juice, minced garlic, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well combined.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Steak

Place the flank steak in a large resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.

Grilling the Steak

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

  2. 4

    Grill the Steak

Remove the steak from the marinade and let any excess marinade drip off. Place the steak on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.

  3. 5

    Melt the Cheese

In the last minute of grilling, sprinkle the shredded jack cheese over the steak to allow it to melt.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 6

    Slice the Steak

Once cooked, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes. Slice it thinly against the grain.

  2. 7

    Prepare the Rolls

Cut the sandwich rolls in half and toast them lightly on the grill if desired.

  3. 8

    Build the Sandwich

Spread mayo on the bottom half of each roll. Layer with sliced steak, shredded lettuce, avocado slices, and tomato slices. Top with the other half of the roll.
