Method
Bread Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (110°F/43°C) with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine bread flour and salt. Mix well.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast is activated, pour the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- 4
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 6
Shape Baguette
After the first rise, punch down the dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a baguette by rolling it out on a floured surface.
- 7
Second Rise
Place shaped baguettes on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- 8
Preheat Oven
Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
- 9
Bake Baguettes
Make slashes on the top of each baguette with a sharp knife. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crusty.
