Method

Preparation of the Cream Mixture

  1. 1

    Separate the Eggs

In a large mixing bowl, separate the egg whites from the yolks, placing them in separate bowls.

  2. 2

    Whisk the Egg Yolks

Add the granulated sugar and vanilla extract to the egg yolks. Using an electric mixer, whisk until the mixture is pale and creamy.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Mascarpone

Add the mascarpone cheese to the egg yolk mixture and blend until smooth and well combined.

  4. 4

    Whip Egg Whites

In another clean bowl, whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.

  5. 5

    Whip the Heavy Cream

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then fold it into the mascarpone mixture gently.

Preparation of Coffee Mixture

  1. 6

    Brew the Coffee

Prepare the espresso or strong brewed coffee and allow it to cool slightly.

  2. 7

    Mix with Liqueur

If using, stir in the coffee liqueur into the cooled coffee.

Assembling the Tiramisu

  1. 8

    Dip the Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

  2. 9

    Layering

In a rectangular dish, start by laying a layer of soaked ladyfingers on the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers.

  3. 10

    Repeat Layers

Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone cream mixture.

Chilling and Serving

  1. 11

    Chill

Cover the tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. 12

    Serve

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and, if desired, garnish with dark chocolate shavings. Slice and enjoy!
