Dough

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Egg and Water

Add the egg and cold water gradually, mixing until a dough forms. Knead lightly on a floured surface for about 2-3 minutes.

  3. 3

    Chill the Dough

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Cook the Filling

In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks.

  2. 5

    Add Vegetables

Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and diced bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 6

    Season the Filling

Stir in the chopped green olives, hard-boiled eggs, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 7

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 8

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8-inch thick. Cut out circles (about 6 inches in diameter) using a round cutter.

  3. 9

    Fill the Empanadas

Place a tablespoon of the filling onto one half of each dough circle. Fold the other half over and press the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative finish.

  4. 10

    Apply Egg Wash

Brush the tops of the empanadas with the egg wash.

  5. 11

    Bake the Empanadas

Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. 12

    Serve

Let the empanadas cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Empanada del Dia!
