Method
Preparing the Falafel
- 1
Soak the Fava Beans
Rinse the dried fava beans and soak them in water overnight. This will soften them and make them easier to blend.
- 2
Drain and Combine Ingredients
After soaking, drain the fava beans and place them into a food processor. Add the canned chickpeas, chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped parsley, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Pulse until the mixture is coarsely blended but not pureed.
- 3
Add Flour
Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in the flour. This will help bind the falafel. Let the mixture rest for about 30 minutes.
- 4
Shape the Falafel
Once rested, shape the mixture into small balls or patties, about 1.5 inches in diameter.
- 5
Fry the Falafel
In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the falafel in batches, cooking for about 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
