Tempura Batter
Shrimp
Honey Chili Garlic Sauce
Oil for frying
Method
Prepare the Tempura Batter
- 1
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- 2
Add Water
Gradually pour in the ice-cold water while whisking gently. Do not overmix; the batter should remain slightly lumpy.
Prepare the Shrimp
- 3
Season the Shrimp
Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry. Sprinkle salt and black pepper over the shrimp and toss gently to coat.
Prepare the Honey Chili Garlic Sauce
- 4
Combine Sauce Ingredients
In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the honey, chili sauce, minced garlic, and chopped green chili. Stir until the mixture is well combined and heated through. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped herbs.
Fry the Shrimp
- 5
Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Coat Shrimp
Dip each seasoned shrimp into the tempura batter, allowing excess batter to drip off.
- 7
Fry Shrimp
Carefully place the battered shrimp into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- 8
Drain Shrimp
Once cooked, remove the shrimp from the oil and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
