Preparation

- 2
Melt the Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Heat in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
- 3
Mix Sugar and Eggs
In another bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, large eggs, and egg yolk until well combined and slightly frothy.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, stirring continuously to prevent the eggs from cooking.
- 5
Add Dry Ingredients
Sift the all-purpose flour into the chocolate-egg mixture and add the vanilla extract. Gently fold until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
Baking
- 6
Fill Ramekins
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.
- 7
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is soft and gooey.
- 8
Cool Briefly
Remove from oven and let the ramekins cool for 1 minute. Carefully run a knife around the edges and invert onto plates.
Serving
- 9
Serve the Cake
Serve the warm chocolate lava cakes immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Dust with powdered sugar for garnish.
