Cevapi and Pocket Ingredients

Method

Preparation and Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cevapi Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground lamb, minced garlic, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Mix thoroughly until well combined. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.

  2. 2

    Shape the Cevapi

Once the mixture is chilled, wet your hands with olive oil and shape the meat mixture into small, finger-sized sausages (about 4 inches long).

  3. 3

    Grill the Cevapi

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the cevapi for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are cooked through and have a nice char.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Toppings

While the cevapi are grilling, prepare the toppings. In a separate bowl, combine the chopped onion and diced tomatoes. Set aside.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Cevapi Pocket

Once the cevapi are ready, take a piece of lepinja bread, add several grilled cevapi, top with the onion and tomato mixture, and finish with a dollop of sour cream. Fold the bread over to create a pocket.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the cevapi pockets warm with extra sour cream on the side if desired.
