Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and well combined. Let it rest for about 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles and bubbles, it's ready.

Cooking the Pollock

  1. 3

    Batter the Fish

Dip the pollock fillet into the prepared batter, ensuring it's fully coated.

  2. 4

    Fry the Fish

Carefully place the battered pollock into the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 5

    Prepare the Hoagie

While the fish is frying, slice the hoagie roll in half lengthwise and toast it lightly in a toaster or on a pan until golden.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Sandwich

Place the fried pollock fillet on the bottom half of the toasted hoagie. Top with a slice of American cheese, followed by the lettuce leaves. Cover with the top half of the hoagie roll.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Serve the Pollock Sandwich hot, with your choice of fries or a side salad.
