Prepare the Sauteed Onions
Cook the Patty

Form the Patty
In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form it into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick.

Assemble the Patty Melt

Add Cheese
Once the patty is cooked, place the two slices of Swiss cheese on top of the patty. Cover the skillet with a lid for about 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

Toast the Bread
While the cheese is melting, butter one side of each slice of rye bread.

Combine
Place the melted patty with cheese on one slice of grilled rye, layer with the sauteed onions, and top with the other slice of grilled rye.
Serve

Slice and Serve
Carefully slice the patty melt in half and serve hot. Enjoy!
