Method

For Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Gather all ingredients needed for the mozzarella sticks and set them up in an assembly line: flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.

  2. 2

    Coat the Cheese Sticks

First, dip each mozzarella stick in the flour, ensuring it is fully coated. Shake off any excess flour.

  3. 3

    Dip in Egg

Next, dip the floured mozzarella stick into the beaten eggs, making sure it is covered completely.

  4. 4

    Breadcrumb Coating

Finally, roll the egg-coated mozzarella stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs. Repeat this process for all mozzarella sticks.

  5. 5

    Chill the Coated Sticks

Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while frying.

  6. 6

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the frozen mozzarella sticks in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once fried, remove the mozzarella sticks from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce.

For Marinara Sauce

  1. 8

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 9

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Pour in the crushed tomatoes, and add oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine.

  3. 10

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 11

    Finish with Basil

Just before serving, stir in the fresh basil leaves and let them wilt in the sauce for a minute.
