Mac and Cheese

Texas Toast

Method

Mac and Cheese

  1. 1

    Cook the Macaroni

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and the elbow macaroni. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to create a roux. Cook for about 1 minute until it turns a light golden color.

  3. 3

    Add Milk and Cheese

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Reduce heat to low, then stir in 2 cups of cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring well to ensure that all the pasta is coated with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.

Texas Toast

  1. 5

    Prepare the Butter Mixture

In a small bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of softened butter, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of parsley (if using). Mix until well combined.

  2. 6

    Toast the Bread

Spread the garlic butter mixture generously on one side of each slice of thick sliced bread. Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the bread slices buttered side down. Toast until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Flip and toast the other side if desired.
