Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Butter the Bread

Spread 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.

  2. 2

    Layer the Cheese

On the unbuttered side of two slices of bread, layer 1 slice of provolone, 1 slice of Swiss, 1 slice of cheddar, and 1 slice of American cheese. Top with the remaining two slices of bread, buttered side up.

Grilling

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.

  2. 4

    Grill the Sandwich

Place the sandwiches in the hot skillet, buttered side down. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Carefully flip the sandwiches using a spatula and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.

Serving

  1. 5

    Cut and Serve

Once grilled, remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Let them cool for a minute, then cut them in half diagonally. Serve warm.
