Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak in Water

Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips into the hot oil in batches. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
