Marinara Sauce
Method
Preparing the Marinara Sauce
- 1
- 2
Add Tomatoes and Season
Stir in the crushed tomatoes and add the dried oregano. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 3
Finish the Sauce
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, remove it from heat and set aside. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
Preparing the Calamari
- 4
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.
- 5
- 6
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
- 7
Coat the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the egg mixture, letting any excess drip off, then coat it in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- 8
Fry the Calamari
Carefully place the coated calamari into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 9
Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with the marinara sauce.
