Method
Country Fried Steak
- 1
Prepare the Steak
Cut the beef round steak into 4 equal pieces. Use a meat mallet to pound each piece to about 1/2 inch thick.
- 2
Bread the Steak
In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg. Dip each piece of steak first into the buttermilk mixture, then dredge in the seasoned flour until well coated.
- 3
Cook the Steak
Heat cooking oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the breaded steak pieces and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Sausage Gravy
- 4
Cook the Sausage
In a medium saucepan, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- 5
Make the Gravy
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir until fully incorporated. Slowly add in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3-5 minutes. Season with black pepper and salt.
Eggs & Sides
- 6
Cook the Eggs
In a separate skillet, fry the large eggs to your desired doneness (sunny side up, over easy, etc.). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- 7
Prepare Hashbrowns
In the same skillet or a separate one, cook the hashbrowns according to package instructions until crispy and golden brown.
- 8
Toast or English Muffin
Toast the slices of bread or English muffin until golden brown.
