Method

Cheese Sticks Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

If using block mozzarella, cut it into 8 equal sticks, each about 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, beat the eggs in the second bowl, and mix breadcrumbs, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder in the third bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Coat each mozzarella stick first in the flour, shaking off excess, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

  4. 4

    Freeze the Cheese Sticks

Place the breaded cheese sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while frying.

Frying Cheese Sticks

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Cheese Sticks

Carefully add the frozen cheese sticks to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.

  3. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried cheese sticks with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with marinara sauce.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 8

    Cook the Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the olive oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 9

    Combine Ingredients

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  3. 10

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
