Method
Preparing the Beef Kebab
- 1
Cut the Beef
Trim any excess fat from the beef sirloin and cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- 2
Marinate the Beef
In a large bowl, combine the cubed beef, olive oil, minced garlic, ground cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Mix well to coat the beef evenly. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight for better flavor.
- 3
Prepare the Skewers
If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent burning. If using metal skewers, they can be used directly.
- 4
Skewer the Beef
Thread the marinated beef cubes onto the skewers, leaving a little space between each piece for even cooking.
- 5
Preheat the Grill
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F or 200°C).
- 6
Grill the Skewers
Place the skewers on the hot grill. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the beef is cooked to your desired doneness.
Cooking the Rice
- 7
Rinse the Rice
Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
- 8
Cook the Rice
In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- 9
Simmer the Rice
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.
