Method

Prepare Phyllo Dough

1

Thaw Phyllo Dough

Remove the phyllo dough from the freezer and let it thaw in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours or overnight.

2

Prepare Baking Dish

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with some of the melted butter.

Make Nut Filling

3

Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped walnuts, almonds, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well to combine.

Assemble Baklava

4

Layer Phyllo Dough

Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the prepared baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering and buttering each sheet, until you have about 8 sheets layered.

5

Add Nut Filling

Evenly spread a layer of the nut filling over the phyllo layers in the baking dish.

6

Continue Layering

Continue layering phyllo sheets (about 4 sheets), brushing with butter, and then add another layer of the nut filling. Repeat until all nut filling is used, finishing with about 8 more sheets of phyllo on top.

7

Cut Baklava

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.

Bake Baklava

8

Bake

Bake the assembled baklava in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

Prepare Honey Syrup

9

Combine Syrup Ingredients

In a saucepan, combine honey, water, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.

10

Cool Syrup

Remove from heat and let the syrup cool for a few minutes.

Finish Baklava

11

Pour Syrup

Once the baklava is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the warm honey syrup evenly over it.

12

Cool and Serve

Allow the baklava to cool completely before cutting along the pre-scored lines and serving.
