Method
Preparation
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Measure 1 cup of jasmine rice and place it in a fine-mesh strainer. Rinse the rice under cold running water for about 1-2 minutes, or until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch.
- 2
Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed jasmine rice, 1.5 cups of water, and 0.5 tsp of salt. If you are using butter or oil, add 1 tablespoon at this stage.
Cooking
- 3
Bring to Boil
Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, give it a quick stir to make sure the rice isn’t sticking to the bottom.
- 4
Simmer
Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time, as the steam is essential for cooking the rice.
- 5
Fluff and Serve
After 15 minutes, turn off the heat and let the rice sit, covered, for an additional 5-10 minutes. Once rested, remove the lid, fluff the rice with a fork, and serve.
