Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Begin by rinsing the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Soak the Rice

Soak the rinsed rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Coconut Sauce

In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat gently over low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Do not boil. Reserve 1/4 cup of this mixture for drizzling later.

  4. 4

    Cook the Rice

Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer basket lined with cheesecloth. Steam the rice for about 20-25 minutes, or until it becomes tender and sticky.

  5. 5

    Combine Rice with Coconut Sauce

Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a mixing bowl and pour the remaining coconut sauce over it. Stir well to combine and let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Serving

  1. 6

    Prepare the Mango

While the rice is resting, peel, seed, and slice the ripe mango into thin wedges.

  2. 7

    Plate the Dish

To serve, place a portion of the sticky rice on a plate, arrange the mango slices beside it, and drizzle the reserved coconut sauce over the top.

  3. 8

    Add Optional Toppings

Sprinkle sesame seeds or mung beans on top for added texture and flavor, if desired.
