Calamari

Spicy Marinara Sauce

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

  2. 2

    Coat the Calamari

Dip each calamari ring into the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off. Then coat each ring in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Calamari

Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pan. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Spicy Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil and heat until shimmering.

  2. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute or until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, red pepper flakes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

  4. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
