Build and shake
Chill a coupe or rocks glass by filling it with ice and setting aside. In a cocktail shaker add 6 ice chunks, 1.5 oz Crown Royal, 0.75 oz sour apple liqueur, 2 oz cranberry juice, 0.25 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup if you prefer a touch more sweetness. Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold.
Strain and serve
Discard the ice from the chilled serving glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the glass (use a Hawthorne strainer and fine mesh strainer if available) over fresh ice if serving on the rocks or neat into the chilled coupe if served up.
Garnish
Finish with a lime wheel perched on the rim or a thin apple slice floated on top. Serve immediately.
Notes: Adjust the sour apple liqueur (±0.25 oz) or simple syrup to taste depending on how tart or sweet you prefer the cocktail. Cranberry juice can be substituted with 1.5 oz cranberry + 0.5 oz soda water for a lighter version.
