Method
Prepare Glass
Chill glass
Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to thoroughly chill it.
Mix Cocktail
Add vodka (1.5 oz), sour apple liqueur (1 oz), fresh lemon juice (0.25 oz), simple syrup (0.25 oz) and ice (about 1 cup) into a cocktail shaker.
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and the mixture is well chilled. The lemon juice and syrup balance the tartness of the apple liqueur.
Strain the mixture into the chilled martini or coupe glass, holding back the ice.
Carefully float the butterscotch schnapps (0.25 oz) on top: pour it slowly over the back of a spoon held just above the liquid so it forms a thin layer on the surface. Alternately, gently pour it down the inside of the glass so it creates a swirl.
Garnish & Serve
Garnish the rim or surface with the thin apple slice, lemon twist, or a cherry. If you rimmed with caramel, place the apple slice against the rim so it looks elegant.
Serve immediately while cold. Advise the drinker to sip to enjoy the interplay of tart apple, clean vodka, and sweet butterscotch.
