Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder and pat it dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Dry Rub

In a bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Apply the Dry Rub

Rub the dry mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is evenly coated. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes at room temperature or refrigerate for up to 24 hours for more flavor.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Prepare the Cooking Liquid

In a separate bowl, mix together the apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, and Worcestershire sauce.

  2. 5

    Cook the Pork

Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour the cooking liquid over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-6 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

Serving

  1. 6

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat apart.

  2. 7

    Serve

Serve the pulled pork on its own or on buns, topped with pickles.
