Torte Base

Strawberry-Amaretto Sauce

Method

Torte Base

  1. 1

    Preheat and Prepare

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. It will be quite thin.

  6. 6

    Bake

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool

Allow the torte to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Whipped Cream

  1. 8

    Prepare Whipped Cream

In a mixing bowl, combine heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.

  2. 9

    Whip

Using an electric mixer, beat the mixture on medium-high speed until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.

Strawberry-Amaretto Sauce

  1. 10

    Prepare Strawberries

Wash and hull the strawberries, then slice them into halves or quarters depending on their size.

  2. 11

    Cook Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sliced strawberries, sugar, amaretto liqueur, and lemon juice. Stir gently.

  3. 12

    Simmer

Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes, until the strawberries are soft and the sauce has thickened slightly.

  4. 13

    Cool Sauce

Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool before serving.
