Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Coffee
Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee. Allow it to cool to room temperature and stir in the coffee liqueur if using.
- 2
Whip the Cream
In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue whipping until stiff peaks form.
- 3
Mix the Mascarpone
In another bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
- 5
Soak the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled coffee, making sure not to soak them too long. They should be moist but not soggy.
- 6
Layer the Ingredients
In a 9x9 inch or similar sized dish, place a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- 7
Repeat Layers
Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers on top of the mascarpone mixture. Spread the remaining mascarpone mixture over the second layer.
- 8
Chill and Serve
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.
