Mozzarella Sticks

Method

Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Breading Station

Set up three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Bread the Mozzarella Sticks

Take a mozzarella stick and roll it in the flour, ensuring it is coated evenly. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until well-coated. Repeat for all sticks.

  3. 3

    Chill the Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This helps the breading adhere better during frying.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can check the temperature using a kitchen thermometer.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully place the chilled mozzarella sticks in the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Use a slotted spoon to remove the mozzarella sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 7

    Prepare the Marinara Sauce

In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 8

    Combine Ingredients

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 9

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If using, add fresh basil just before serving.

  4. 10

    Serve

Transfer the marinara sauce to a small bowl for dipping alongside the mozzarella sticks.
