Method

Beef Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef

In a slow cooker, place the beef chuck roast. Sprinkle Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper evenly over the roast.

  2. 2

    Add Broth

Pour the beef broth over the seasoned roast in the slow cooker.

  3. 3

    Cook the Beef

Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the beef is tender and shreds easily with a fork.

  4. 4

    Shred the Beef

Once cooked, remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker, mixing it with the juices.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare the Bread

While the beef is cooking, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the French bread rolls in half lengthwise.

  2. 6

    Melt the Cheese

Place provolone cheese slices on the bottom halves of the bread rolls. Place them in the oven for about 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  3. 7

    Assemble the Sandwich

Remove the bread from the oven. Using tongs, carefully dip the top half of the roll into the au jus from the slow cooker and place it on top of the cheese-covered bottom half.

  4. 8

    Add Beef

Spoon a generous portion of the shredded beef onto each sandwich. Top with giardiniera for added flavor and crunch.

  5. 9

    Serve

Serve the sandwiches with a small bowl of au jus on the side for dipping.
