Method

Mushrooms Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Mushrooms

Rinse the button mushrooms under cold water and gently pat them dry with a paper towel. Remove the stems if desired, but leave the caps whole.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

Set up three shallow dishes. In the first dish, add the all-purpose flour and season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. In the second dish, beat the eggs until well combined. In the third dish, place the breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

    Bread the Mushrooms

Dip each mushroom cap into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat the mushroom in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat with all mushrooms.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles immediately, it's ready.

  2. 5

    Fry the Mushrooms

Carefully add the breaded mushrooms to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried mushrooms to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Ranch Dressing Preparation

  1. 6

    Mix the Dressing

In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until smooth and well blended.

  2. 7

    Chill the Dressing

Cover the ranch dressing with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve the Dish

Once the mushrooms are fried and the ranch dressing is chilled, arrange the breaded mushrooms on a serving platter and serve with the ranch dressing on the side for dipping.
