Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the prime rib eye steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This helps the steak cook evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Rub both sides of the steak with olive oil. Generously season both sides with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and rosemary. Make sure the steak is evenly coated.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to high heat (around 450-500°F or 230-260°C). If using an oven, preheat to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Place the seasoned rib eye steak on the grill or in a hot skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it, until a nice crust forms.

  3. 5

    Flip and Continue Cooking

Flip the steak using tongs and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or until the internal temperature reaches 130°F (54°C). For medium, aim for 140°F (60°C).

  4. 6

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your desired doneness, remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Serving

  1. 7

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the steak against the grain and serve with your choice of sides. Enjoy your perfectly cooked prime rib eye!
