Preparation

  1. 1

    Muddle the Sugar

In a glass, place the sugar cube and add 1 teaspoon of water. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar cube until it dissolves.

  2. 2

    Add Bitters

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to the glass with the dissolved sugar.

  3. 3

    Pour the Whiskey

Pour 2 ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey into the glass over the muddled sugar and bitters mixture.

  4. 4

    Stir the Mixture

Stir the mixture gently with a bar spoon or a regular spoon until combined and chilled slightly.

  5. 5

    Add Ice

Add a large ice cube or a few smaller ones to the glass to chill the drink further.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Garnish the drink with a twist of orange peel. Express the oils over the drink by gently twisting the peel before placing it in the glass. Top the drink with a maraschino cherry.
