Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. 2

    Mix dry ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Cream butter and sugar

In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add eggs and vanilla

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine wet and dry ingredients

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, mixing until just combined.

  6. 6

    Fold in pears

Gently fold in the diced pears until evenly distributed.

  7. 7

    Bake the cake

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  8. 8

    Cool

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Caramel Sauce Preparation

  1. 9

    Make caramel

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly until it turns a deep amber color.

  2. 10

    Add butter

Once the sugar has melted, carefully add the butter and stir until melted and combined.

  3. 11

    Add cream and salt

Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring, then add the sea salt. Continue to cook for another 1-2 minutes until smooth.

  4. 12

    Cool sauce

Remove from heat and let the caramel sauce cool slightly before drizzling over the cake.
