French Fries

Method

Preparing the French Fries

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick. Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water to prevent browning.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Let the cut potatoes soak in the cold water for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and will make the fries crispier.

  3. 3

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove as much moisture as possible.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to ensure the correct temperature.

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips to the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Drain and Season

Once the fries are cooked, remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain. Immediately sprinkle with salt and black pepper while they are still hot.
