For the Beef Brisket
For the Phoritto Assembly
Method
Cooking the Beef Brisket
- 1
Prepare the Brisket
Season the beef brisket with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Rub the spices evenly onto the brisket.
- 2
Sear the Brisket
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a little oil. Once hot, sear the brisket on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 3
Cook the Brisket
Transfer the seared brisket to a slow cooker. Add beef broth, soy sauce, sugar, ginger, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the brisket is tender.
- 4
Shred the Beef
Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker. Let it rest for a few minutes before shredding the meat with two forks.
Assembling the Phoritto
- 5
Prepare the Tortillas
Warm the flour tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable.
- 6
Fill the Tortillas
On each tortilla, place a generous amount of shredded beef brisket. Top with chopped cilantro, sliced green onions, and drizzle with Sriracha sauce to taste.
- 7
Wrap the Phoritto
Fold in the sides of the tortilla and roll it up tightly from the bottom to form a burrito shape.
- 8
Serve
Serve the Phorittos with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the top.
