Main Ingredients

Method

Prepare the Shishito Peppers

  1. 1

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  2. 2

    Blister the Peppers

Add the shishito peppers to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the peppers are blistered and slightly charred. Remove from heat and set aside.

Make Crispy Garlic & Shallots

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil for Frying

In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup of vegetable oil over medium heat.

  2. 4

    Fry the Garlic

Add the thinly sliced garlic to the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on a paper towel.

  3. 5

    Fry the Shallots

Add the thinly sliced shallots to the same oil and fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on a paper towel along with the garlic.

Prepare Soy-Cilantro Vinaigrette

  1. 6

    Mix Vinaigrette Ingredients

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, chopped cilantro, and honey or maple syrup until well combined.

Assemble and Serve

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

On a serving platter, arrange the blistered shishito peppers. Drizzle with the soy-cilantro vinaigrette.

  2. 8

    Garnish

Top with crispy garlic, crispy shallots, and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds.

  3. 9

    Serve

Serve immediately as an appetizer or snack. Enjoy!
