Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add the yeast mixture, milk, and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let it Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté Aromatics

In a skillet, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and ginger, sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 7

    Cook Mushrooms

Add chopped mushrooms to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes until they are tender and any moisture has evaporated.

  3. 8

    Add Green Onions and Seasoning

Stir in the chopped green onions, soy sauce, and salt to taste. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Assembly and Cooking

  1. 9

    Shape the Buns

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small balls (about 1-2 inches in diameter). Flatten each ball, and place a spoonful of mushroom filling in the center. Carefully fold the dough over the filling and pinch to seal.

  2. 10

    Prepare for Steaming

Line a steamer basket with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Arrange the buns in the steamer, leaving space between them.

  3. 11

    Steam the Buns

Bring water to a boil in a pot. Place the steamer basket over the pot and steam the buns for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are fluffy and cooked through.

  4. 12

    Serve

Remove the buns from the steamer and serve hot. Enjoy your delicious mushroom buns!
