Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.
- 3
Add Wet Ingredients
Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until everything is well blended.
- 4
Incorporate Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
- 5
Pour Batter into Pans
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from the pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
Serving
- 8
Slice and Serve
Once the cakes are completely cooled, slice them in half horizontally if desired, then stack them or serve as is. Top with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
