Cooking Instructions
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place 1 cup of white rice in a fine mesh sieve or colander and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. This step removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from becoming gummy.
- 2
Boil Water
In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring the water to a boil over high heat.
- 3
Add Rice
Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice to the pot. Stir briefly to ensure the rice is evenly distributed in the water.
- 4
Simmer
Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the rice simmer for about 18-20 minutes. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking to keep the steam inside.
- 5
Check for Doneness
After 18 minutes, remove the lid and check if the water has been absorbed. If the rice is tender and the water is gone, it’s done. If not, cover and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- 6
Fluff and Serve
Once the rice is done, remove it from heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter or olive oil (optional) and fluff the rice with a fork. Let it sit for 5 minutes before serving.
