Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook Potatoes

Start by boiling the potatoes in salted water until soft, about 15-20 minutes. Once cooked, drain and let cool slightly before mashing them in a large bowl.

  2. 2

    Prepare Fish

While the potatoes are cooking, prepare the fish. Steam or poach the fish fillets until they are fully cooked, about 10 minutes. Once done, flake the fish into small pieces using a fork.

  3. 3

    Sauté Onion

In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Mixing and Shaping

  1. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In the bowl with the mashed potatoes, add the flaked fish, sautéed onion, chopped parsley, beaten egg, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.

  2. 5

    Shape Patties

Take a portion of the mixture and shape it into a patty, about the size of your palm. Repeat with the remaining mixture until all are shaped.

Cooking

  1. 6

    Fry Fish Cakes

In a large skillet, heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the fish cakes, cooking them in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.

  2. 7

    Drain Fish Cakes

Cook each fish cake for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Serve the fish cakes warm with a side of tartar sauce or a fresh salad.
